FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Franklin County man is indicted for murder.

35-year-old Jason Green is accused of shooting his live-in girlfriend and trying to pass it off as a suicide.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, after reviewing evidence from the scene his investigators along with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation said it does not match what was originally believed to have been a suicide.

Officials believe Green killed Shay Ledlow back in January.

According to reports, Ledlow was shot in the mouth at their home in this neighborhood on Oak Hills Drive in Russellville.

Authorities said Green called 9-1-1 after the shooting claiming she shot herself on a dare.

Sheriff Oliver said although the charges have been formerly filed, the investigation isn't over.

"With our investigation at this time there was some evidence that we believe it wasn't a suicide, this investigation is still ongoing, it's still an open investigation," he said.

Green's next court date is set for January 4th. If convicted he could face anywhere from ten years to life in prison.
