BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- University of North Alabama linebacker Marcus Dowtin and return specialist Tristan Purifoy have been honored with Gulf South Conference Player of the Week awards for November 13th.
Dowtin, a native of Upper Marlboro, Md., takes home his second honor of the season after spearheading UNA's defense in a 30-23 road triumph over Valdosta State. The senior racked up a team-best 10 total tackles behind a game-high eight solo stops. He also added two tackles for a loss of 11 yards, forced one fumble and added one quarterback hurry. Dowtin's final sack came early in the fourth quarter and knocked VSU's starting quarterback out of the game which hampered the Blazers' offense the rest of the way.
Puifoy, a Hanceville, Ala., native, earns UNA's third special teams award this season. The senior had four total returns for 104 yards, led by three kickoff returns for 86 yards. His biggest impact came when he blocked a Valdosta State punt which was returned for the game-tying score with 8:08 remaining in the contest
