Driver in fatal wreck charged with DUI

Posted: Updated:

The driver involved in a fatal motorcycle wreck Friday morning has been charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Police arrested 43-year-old Jason Christopher Gentle Friday afternoon for a separate incident. He was booked into the Huntsville Madison County jail with no bond set. It is unknown if he will face any charges in the wreck.

Court records show Gentle previously pleaded guilty to DUI, speeding and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say Gentle was driving the truck that struck and killed 73-year-old Robert Walker of Ardmore, Tennessee on Highway 53 between Douglas Road and Kelly Springs Road around 6 a.m. Friday.

Police say Gentle's truck swerved into the southbound lane and hit the motorcycle.

Walker was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

A gold truck traveling behind the motorcycle was damaged in the accident. No one in that vehicle was injured.

Officers shut down both north and south bound traffic to the public for at least one hour. Traffic was detoured to Burwell Road.

Gentle was released from the scene of the wreck Friday morning. Later in the day, officers pulled him over in a traffic stop. He was then arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
