HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Another pair of preseason men's basketball national polls were released on Tuesday, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville landed in the top five of both. The Chargers placed second in the NABC Division II Coaches Poll while garnering the fourth position in the Basketball Times rankings.
Also, Josh Magette and Zane Campbell earned additional preseason accolades as both were named preseason All-Americans by the Basketball Times.
As has been the case in all of the major national polls, defending national champion Bellarmine out of Kentucky locked down the top spot in both of the rankings announced on Tuesday.
From there, the Chargers were followed by BYU-Hawaii, Missouri Southern and Lincoln Memorial to round out the first five of the NABC list. The Basketball Times had Lincoln Memorial in second followed by West Liberty with BYU-Hawaii coming after the Blue and White for its top five.
Neither poll featured another Gulf South Conference institution, though Christian Brothers did pick up votes in the NABC poll. Also, South Region member Benedict was ranked 13th by the coaches and sixth by the Basketball Times.
The Chargers will hit the road for Tuscaloosa on Monday, Nov. 7, as they face off against Alabama in an exhibition contest and then open the regular season up at home on Nov. 14 with a 7:30 p.m. tip.
