Jackson State has moved to the top-spot and Winston Salem State is unanimous again in Week-9 HSRN Div. I FCS and Div. II Top-10 polls. Its Jackson State's first and Winston Salem State's sixth consecutive week in the number one position. Each week during the 2011 season HSRN staff and writers, along with selected media representatives and SIDs, will rank Historical Black Colleges Division I FCS and NCAA Division II teams.
In FCS action last week #4 Alabama A&M (Bulldogs) knocked off #1 Alabama State 20-19 in a barn burner in front of over 66,000 fans at the 70th Annual Magic City Classic. Alabama A&M did get two first place votes, but it was Jackson State's 19 first place votes after their 44-14 win over #8 Prairie View that moved them to the top spot and the Bulldogs moved up from three to two. Prairie View dropped to #10. #4 Norfolk State defeated N.C. A&T 14-10 and got one first place vote and moved up to #4. #5 Hampton defeated Savannah State 22-5 and held on to their position, Florida A&M was idle Saturday but held on to #6. #7 S.C. State held on to their position after shutting out Howard 31-0. Bethune Cookman moved to #8 with their 34-6 win over N. C. Central and Morgan State moved from #10 to #9 with their 12-0 win over Delaware State.
In Div. II action, the top-5 remained in tack and it was #8 Miles knocking off #6 Stillman 9-7. That win moved Miles to #6 and dropped Stillman to #8. The win also clinched Miles the SIAC Western Division title and a berth in the SIAC Championship game on November 12. Fayetteville State moved into the top-10 at #10 after their 44-23 win over #9 J.C. Smith. Virginia State defeated arch rival Virginia Union 39-14 and moved up to #9.
