Auburn sophomore running back Michael Dyer has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Dyer was honored for his play in Auburn's 41-23 win against Ole Miss on Saturday.
Dyer, a native of Little Rock, Ark., rushed for 177 yards on 27 carries in the win. The total was the second-most in his career, behind the 180 he ran against Ole Miss last season. The 27 attempts were also the second-most of his Auburn career.
It marked his ninth career 100-yard rushing game and the fourth 150-yard rushing game of his career. Of the 177 yards, 116 came in the second half when the Tigers out-scored the Rebels, 24-6. Dyer scored his team-high ninth touchdown of the season in the third quarter to give Auburn a 31-17 lead.
Dyer is currently third in the SEC and 19th in the nation in rushing, averaging 109.9 yards per game. He has 989 rushing yards this season, needing just 11 to reach 1,000 on the season which would make him the fourth Auburn running back to record consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons and the first since Carnell Williams (2003-04). Dyer also now has 2,082 yards on his career, ranking him 13th all-time at Auburn.
