LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A traffic stop turned into a drug bust in the Shoals.  It happened only blocks away from the Florence police department.

Investigators told WAFF 48 News the officer who originally pulled the car over noticed something suspicious about the driver and the two other people in the car, so he called in K-9 units and the drug task force.

Officials said they seized nearly 20 pounds of what they consider high quality marijuana. The wholesale value of the pot is anywhere from 50 to 60 thousand dollars.

WAFF 48 News spoke to Tim Glover, the director of the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force, Tuesday about an increase in drug trafficking here in the shoals.

"Our seizures of high quality marijuana has picked up over the past year. That is an unusual large amount of marijuana to be seized in a traffic stop, but we are seeing an increase in quality and potency of marijuana that we are seizing off the streets," said Glover.

Alejandro Torres, Leopoldo Parraz, and Debra Beck have all been charged with trafficking marijuana, they are also all from California.

Tim Glover said that local agencies have stepped up patrol and are working together to catch those bringing drugs in and out of Lauderdale County.
