Jacksonville State ranked 8th in FCS football

Jacksonville State climbed to its highest ranking of the season after coming in at No. 8 and No. 10 in this week's Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 polls, which were released on Monday.

The Gamecocks, 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, moved up two spots to No. 8 in the FCS Coaches Top 25 and up one spot to No. 10 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com poll following a 44-14 rout at Austin Peay. The No. 8 ranking is the highest for the Gamecocks this season after JSU was ranked No. 9 in both preseason polls.

Georgia Southern remained No. 1 for the fourth straight week, while Northern Iowa is ranked second and Montana State is third in both polls.

Jax State has now been ranked for 38 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls, which is the longest such stretch in the school's 108-year history and is now 52-15 against OVC competition to post the best conference winning percentage among active schools of any team in the FCS. The Gamecocks are the only remaining undefeated team in OVC play this season.

The Gamecocks return to action this week at the University of Kentucky in a nationally televised game on ESPNU at 11 a.m. JSU returns to Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium on Oct. 29 against Tennessee Tech for Homecoming and kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
