JSU Claims Second At The Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Jacksonville State's rifle team claimed second place at The Citadel Invitational this weekend after posting an aggregate score of 4610 at The Cidadel Markmanship Center.
Texas Christian University edged JSU by 53 (4663) points to claim the top spot in the eight-team field. The Gamecocks finished comfortably ahead of third-place finisher, Columbus State. North Carolina State and The Citadel's men's team rounded out the top-five squads.
Jax State turned in a 2291 in smallbore before delivering a 2319 in the air rifle portion.
Senior Andrea Dardas came up one point shy of claiming individual medalist honors in smallbore as she tabulated a score of 581. TCU's Sarah Scherer took home gold with a 582. Sophomore Sam Muegge turned in a 575 to place fifth in the individual standings. Muegge earned a spot in the top-10 in air rifle with a 585. He equaled Monica Fyfe's score in air rifle. Fyfe's mark is the highest she has recorded this season in air rifle.
Freshman Dan McCall turned in a season-best 565 in smallbore to card a ninth-place spot. Jordan Fraser and Cole Tucker finished 12th and 13th respectively in smallbore.
Freshman Brent Books fired a 579 in air rifle, establishing a new season-high in the air rifle section.
JSU will host the University of Texas-El Paso on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Gamecock Rifle Range. The Miners of UTEP were listed 13th in the College Rifle Coaches Association Preseason Poll.
