The Southern Conference announced its Players of the Month for September across eight different categories, and Samford's Lauren Hutchinson was named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Month.
"Lauren has worked so hard towards her personal goals," said Head Coach Derek Schroeder, "and I am so proud of the work she has done on her own from all the way from February through this season so far."
Hutchinson was part of a very strong offensive unit that helped Samford to a 14-2 record in September, their best start in program history. When the NCAA released its final rankings for the month of September, Hutchinson was at the top of the national D1 leader boards with an impressive .450 percent, including 202 kills on 353 total attacks.
She hit .484 behind 18 kills in an impressive five-set victory at home against Alabama, the first in program history, and tallied 14 kills and three assisted blocks in a road win against a tough Georgia Tech team. She hit double-digit kills in all but two matches in September and hit a season-high .722 in a sweep victory over Louisiana Tech. She is on pace to crack the top ten all-time at Samford in single-season kills and block assists and potentially could set the single-season record for attack percentage, which is currently .354, set by Kathy Knox in 1990.
Hutchinson and the Bulldogs resume conference play at home this Friday as they welcome UNC-Greensboro for a 7 p.m. match.
