BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- University of North Alabama return specialist Janoris Jenkins has been named Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season after his performance in the Lions' 42-14 road win over Southern Arkansas.
Jenkins, a senior from Pahokee, Fla., broke a 14-14 tie in the third quarter when he returned an SAU punt 89 yards for a go-ahead touchdown for the Lions. It was his second punt return TD of the season and was the second longest punt return in UNA history. Jenkins had another punt return for 21 yards and a 13-yard kickoff return for 123 total return yards. He also blocked a Southern Arkansas field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.
For the season, Jenkins averages 24.8 yards on 11 punt returns with 273 return yards. He is also the Lions third leading tackler with 33 through five games.
North Alabama, 5-0, plays at Arkansas Tech Saturday at 6 p.m.
