Lions Remain No. 2 in Division II

WACO, Texas - For the second straight week the University of North Alabama football team is ranked second nationally in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll.

 

The Lions had a solid come-from-behind win over Harding, 28-20, to remain undefeated at 4-0. 

 

Northwest Missouri State remained at No. 1 spot with 28 first place votes after a  70-17 win over Fort Hays State. Shepherd (W.Va.) still sits in third,  but Valdosta State (Ga.) jumped Bloomsburg (Pa.) for the No. 4 spot. Gulf South Conference member Delta State remains at No. 6.

 

UNA has been nationally ranked in 31 of the 32 Division II polls since Terry Bowden arrived as head coach of the Lions in 2009, and has been in the Top 10 in 26 of those 31 polls. The Lions were also nationally ranked in the Top 11 for 49 consecutive weeks prior to Bowden's arrival, giving UNA a national ranking in 80 of the last 81 polls dating back to 2005. 

 

The Lions opened the 2011 season ranked No. 6 but UNA has continued to climb in the polls. UNA plays at Southern Arkansas Saturday at 6 p.m.
