Gamecocks Continue to Climb in Top 25 Football Polls

9/26/2011 | Football

Jacksonville State moved up two spots in both major football Top 25 polls on Monday after the Gamecocks remained undefeated in conference play over the weekend.

The Gamecocks (3-1, 2-0 OVC) moved up to No. 13 in the FCS Coaches Top 25 and moved up to No. 14 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 poll.

Georgia Southern remained No. 1 in both polls, followed by Northern Iowa, Appalachian State and Montana State.

Jacksonville State, which picked up its 500th win in school history with a 28-21 win over Eastern Illinois last Saturday, has now been ranked for 35 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls. That's the longest such stretch in the school's history and the Gamecocks are now 50-15 against OVC competition since joining the league in 2003.

The Gamecocks return to action on Saturday at Murray State as the top two teams in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason polls meet at Stewart Stadium. JSU has won seven straight games against the Racers, including a 40-34 win last year.

Jacksonville State has posted 400 yards of total offense the last two games, including an average of 270 rushing yards per game. Washaun Ealey leads the team with 118.5 yards, while Calvin Middleton is averaging 92.5 yards during that span.

Murray State averages 464 yards of total offense and his led by quarterback Casey Brockman, who throws for more than 306 yards per game.

Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. in Murray, Ky. and the game can be heard on the Gamecock Sports Network with Mike Parris and Ed Lett, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
