FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A man and wife from Haleyville are charged with sexual abuse.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said Dan Busby, Jr. of 178 Kidds Road, Lot 19 in Haleyville, is charged with rape, sodomy, and soliciting sex from a minor.

His wife, Kristy Ann Busby, is charged with sodomy 2nd degree, rape 2nd degree, and electronic solicitation of a minor. Investigators said she was arrested as a co-conspirator.

All of the charges the Busbys face are carry a penalty of 2-20 years in prison if convicted, as they are Class B felonies.

According to Sheriff Oliver, Busby was arrested Wednesday, his wife Thursday.

Investigators said Busby is accused of sexually abusing a child for over two years, and she was 10 when the abuse started. The Busbys were family acquaintances of the girl.

According to reports, the abuse began and continued while the Busbys lived in a separate county from the young girl.

When they moved to Haleyville, investigators said that is when Busby started soliciting sex from the girl via text messages.

The authorities were notified when the girl told someone Busby was abusing her.

After an investigation that began last week, the Busby's were arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department with the assistance of the Haleyville Police.

Busby is being held in Franklin County Jail on bail of $100,000.

Kristy Busby was being held without bond on Thursday. She said she didn't come forward because she didn't want to get her husband in trouble.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
