MILWAUKEE– The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the 2012 field staff for their Double-A affiliate Huntsville Stars. New to the staff is manager Darnell Coles and hitting coach Dwayne Hosey. Pitching coach John Curtis will return to Huntsville for his fourth season with the Stars.
Coles spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons as the Brewers Minor League Hitting Coordinator. This will be his third season in the Brewers organization. Previously, he served as hitting coach in 2009 at Triple-A Syracuse (Washington) and as a manager in 2008 at Class-A Hagerstown (Washington). Coles had a lengthy 14-year playing career in the Major Leagues with Seattle (1983-85, 1988-90), Detroit (1986-87, 1990), Pittsburgh (1988), San Francisco (1991), Cincinnati (1992), Toronto (1993-94), St. Louis (1995) and Colorado (1997).
Hosey is also entering his third season with the Brewers. He spent the previous two years as hitting coach for the Brewers High-A affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees. He played 15 professional seasons as an outfielder, including parts of two seasons in the Major Leagues with Boston (1995-96).
Pitching coach Curtis will be back for his fourth season in Huntsville and 10th in the Brewers system. Prior to joining the Stars, Curtis held a similar position with the Brewers Class-A affiliate West Virginia (2005-08). He had a successful 15-year career pitching in the Major Leagues, spending time with Boston, St. Louis, San Francisco, San Diego and California (Angels).
Former manager Mike Guerrero and coach Al LeBoeuf have been assigned to Triple-A Nashville. The strength and conditioning coach and athletic trainer will be announced at a later date.
