Jax State Climbs in Top 25 Football Polls

Jacksonville State moved up one spot in both major Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 polls on Monday after claiming a 37-21 win over Georgia State over the weekend.

The Gamecocks are No. 15 in the FCS Coaches Top 25 and No. 16 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com poll. It marks 34 straight weeks the Gamecocks have been ranked in the Top 25, which is the longest such stretch in school history.

Georgia Southern remained No. 1 in both polls, followed by Northern Iowa, Appalachian State and Montana State rounds out the top 4.

Jax State has posted a 27-10 overall record since 2008 and is looking to remain in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Gamecocks host Eastern Illinois on Saturday at Burgess-Snow Field.

Saturday's football game features the two longest tenured coaches in the Ohio Valley Conference as EIU coach Bob Spoo is set to retire at the end of the season after 25 years of guiding the Panthers.

JSU's Jack Crowe is in his 12th season at Jax State and is the active leader in winning percentage among all OVC coaches with a 49-15 record for a .766 winning percentage, while Spoo enters the game with a 67-38 OVC mark, for a .638 winning percentage.
