UNA's Jenkins Receives GSC Award

FLORENCE -- University of North Alabama senior defensive back Janoris Jenkins has been named Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Lions' 48-21 win over Glenville State Saturday.

Jenkins, a Pahokee, Fla., native and a transfer to UNA this season from the University of Florida, had one punt return for 87 yards and a touchdown and one kickoff return for 29 yards. Jenkins punt return TD was the first by a UNA player since the 2009 season opener.

Jenkins is the second UNA player to be honored by the league this season. Linebacker Marcus Dowtin was the GSC Defensive Player of the Week in UNA's season-opening win over Central Oklahoma.

North Alabama, ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II, will face third ranked Abilene Christian on Sept. 17 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas as part of the Lone Star Football Festival.
