9/11 ten year anniversary events in the Tennessee Valley

  • Community Ceremony held by Woodmen of the World Lodge 514 in Athens. Begins at 10 a.m. at the Limestone County Department of Human Resources Building at 1007 W. Market Street.


  • Redstone Arsenal 9.11k Road Race - Team Redstone's and Family Morale Welfare and Recreation Sports and Fitness road race begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Race starts at the Sparkman Complex building 5302, Martin Road.
  • Cry Out America - 9:30 a.m. until Noon at the duck pond in Big Springs Park in Athens. Music from different churches and a prayer for America.
  • Mozart Requiem, a memorial concert dedicated to first responders and military at Bob Jones High School Auditorium. Begins at 2 p.m.
  • Grissom Band Tribute - Saturday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. Grissom High Band performs the 9/11 Max Hammond Memorial Concert. Max, a former band member, was aboard the second plane to strike the Twin Towers. Donations will be taken with money going to purchase instruments for the band.
  • Oakwood University memorial service. 7:30 p.m. at the Oakwood University Church.


  • Kroger associates and customers will pause for a moment of silent reflection at 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, September 11 - the exact moment the American Airlines Flight 11 struck the World Trade Center ten years ago.
  • Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal church 9/11 service begins at 10 a.m.
  • Morgan County Memorial Service - Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Park Baptist Church in Decatur.
  • Huntsville's Police and Fire & Rescue departments will lead the city's participation in a moment of remembrance at 12 p.m. For one minute, Huntsville's first responders are asking citizens to join the country as they sound sirens and bells in a signal for each of us to stop and remember the 10th anniversary of the tragedies of September 11, 2001.
  • Athens Memorial Service - 3 p.m. at the Limestone County Courthouse. A survivor of the 9/11 attacks will speak at the memorial service. Hosted by the Athens Ministerial Association.
  • Huntsville Community Chorus concert at First Baptist Church of Huntsville. Sunday, September 11 at 4:45 p.m.
