Auburn’s Tre Mason Named Co-SEC Freshman Of The Week

AUBURN – Freshman running back Tre Mason has been named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Mason was honored for his play in Auburn's season-opening 42-38 win against Utah State.

A native of Lake Worth, Fla., Mason totaled 176 kickoff return yards against the Aggies on Saturday, including a 97-yard return for touchdown. His 176 return yards are tied for the third-most in a single game in school history while his 97-yard touchdown return is tied for the eighth-longest.

He was also the first Auburn freshman to return a kickoff for touchdown since Brad Lester against Ball State in 2005. Mason's 44.0 yard per kickoff return also currently rank fourth in the NCAA.

Mason is the first Tiger to earn an SEC weekly honor this season. He is also the first SEC Freshman of the Week since Michael Dyer earned the honor on Nov. 1, 2010.

The Tigers (1-0) return to action Saturday with their SEC-opener against Mississippi State (1-0) on the SEC Network. Kickoff is set for 11:21 a.m., from Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium.
