UNA Gets 5-1 Soccer Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Chloe Roberts scored two goals and had an assist and Jo Chubb had three assists to lead the University of North Alabama women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over Barry. The win gives UNA a 2-0 record and avenges a 5-4 loss to Barry a year ago where the Lions held a three-goal lead.

UNA held a 3-1 lead at intermission and added two more second half goals for the win.

"We played very good defense today and we were well organized defensively all day from front to back," said UNA head coach Graham Winkworth. "We were also very efficient with our shots with 13 of the 22 on goal."

Roberts scored her first goal of the match at the 24:43 mark off an assist from Chubb. Barry tied the game at 1-1 less than 30 seconds later on a goal from Sara Karna but Roberts and UNA answered at the 32:54 mark to take the lead for good. Roberts goal came on an assist from Jennifer Osmond and gave UNA a 2-1 advantage. It was Roberts 63 career goal, tying her for third place in Gulf South Conference history. Hollie Loud scored in the 34th minute off an assist from Chubb to make it 3-1 and Jamie Takala scored her third goal of the year at 54:03 off an assist from Roberts to make it 4-1. The final goal came at 77:58 off the foot of Jennifer Osmond to make it 5-1. Chubb had her third assist of the day on the goal.

UNA out-shot Barry 22-12 and the Lions' goalkeeper Alex McLay had eight saves.

With three goals and two assists already this season, Roberts has 154 career points and moved past former UNA teammate Tassia Augusto into fourth place in GSC history, while also setting the Lions' career mark. Roberts 63 career goals is just one behind Augusto for the UNA record.

With the two road wins in hand, UNA will play its 2011 home opener on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against perennial Division II power Carson-Newman.
