JACKSON, Tenn. – Khris Davis drove in four runs for the Huntsville Stars (63-71), leading them to a 6-3 victory over the Jackson Generals (66-69) in the final road game of the 2011 season. With the win, the Stars have eliminated the Generals from playoff contention.
Davis went deep for the second time this season in his first at-bat of the game. In the eighth inning, he came through again with a three-RBI double that put the Stars up 6-2.
The loss went to Edward Paredes (1-3) who came in to pitch the eighth. He only lasted a third of an inning allowing four runs, including Davis' double.
Francisco Martinez and Vinnie Catricala each hit solo shots for the Generals off reliever Jesus Sanchez. Martinez tied the game at two in the seventh and Catricala narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the eighth.
Cody Scarpetta came off the DL and went 4.1 innings giving up only one run on two hits and two walks. Sanchez (4-7) came in for 3.2 innings of relief to pick up the victory. He gave up a total of three hits. Robert Wooten got his seventh save of the season with a one-two-three ninth inning and two strikeouts.
The Stars are off Wednesday and will return home for the final five games of the season against the Mobile BayBears on Thursday at 6:43 p.m. Thursday will be the final Bud-Light Thirst-Aid Thursday of the season featuring $2 20-ounce drafts through the seventh inning.
