SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -
Sherman McBryar pleaded guilty to three counts of willful child abuse Thursday morning. A day earlier, McBryar rejected a plea deal.
The judge sentenced McBryar to 17 years on one count, 18 years to run consecutive on another count, then a 20 year concurrent sentence on the third.
All of the other counts against McBryar were dismissed.
A criminal complaint stated that McBryar put his two-year-old in a car seat in the bathroom with three goats while the temperature was more than 90 degrees.
He is also accused of slamming his one-year-old's head into a wall and putting a wire around her wrist to keep her from sucking her thumb.
Defense attorney Robert Ray told the court he hoped by McBryar entering this plea that it will allow the mother to be prosecuted for her role in the crime. Currently she has not been charged.
