The 19th-ranked Auburn football team capped its first week of practice with a two hour workout on the practice fields behind the Athletic Complex Saturday evening.
Practicing in relatively cool conditions, the Tigers went through position and seven-on-seven drills in addition to special teams work.
"We practiced in shells again today," offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said. "We had an emphasis on running the football today. This is the second practice in a row where we've really focused on our pad level and getting after it.
"As coaches, it's really given us some good information about the players, especially the young guys. It's been a good two days of practice and now we have tomorrow off before getting back at it on Monday."
Saturday's practiced marked the Tigers' final day in shells- helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. Monday's return to practice will be the team's first in full pads. Auburn will practice Monday and Tuesday before holding their first scrimmage of preseason camp on Wednesday.
The Tigers will open the 2011 season Sept. 3 vs. Utah State at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2 with kickoff set for 11 a.m. CT.
