Wallace State volleyball nationally ranked

Wallace State's volleyball team once again finds itself among the best in the nation, ranked No. 21 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I preseason poll released late Wednesday.

Wallace State volleyball has earned a Top 25 preseason ranking for the third year in a row and is seeking its third consecutive state championship under coach Randy Daniel.

Last year, Wallace State compiled a program-best 53-3 record, marched to another ACCC tournament title and remained undefeated in regular-season league play for the third year in a row. The squad set single-season team records in wins, blocks, kills, digs and assists and tallied a match victory over Temple (Texas) College at the NJCAA tournament, marking the first win at nationals under Daniel.

Wallace State opens the 2011 season on Aug. 26-27, hosting its annual tournament at Tom Drake Coliseum.

Sophomores returning this season are Amelia Moore of Clay-Chalkville High School; Callie Miller of Hartselle; Caelin Light of Arab; Lesley Bemis of Parkway Christian; Kaydi Langley of Addison and Kris Lawson of Gaston.

Light and Bemis were All-ACCC/Region 22 first-team selections last season.

Daniel, who is entering his fifth year with the program, has a 153-28 career record at Wallace State.
