FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -
Tornado victims in DeKalb and Jackson counties can get help through a long term recovery committee that's been set up.
David Patty is the head of the committee. He said rebuilding will take much longer this time than in 2008 when there was another tornado outbreak in the area.
"We've got 24 cases approved right now. Some of them are repair. Some are complete rebuilds," said Patty.
He said the committee's job is to consider the residents' needs and try to help with what resources are available to them.
Volunteers is one thing that is greatly needed.
"A lot of these home owners are not able to do it without it, so we are asking," said Patty.
Volunteer builders are needed. If you can help, call Sand Mountain Baptist Association at 256-451-3750.
Storm survivors can call 256-638-2126 or go by The Upper Sand Mountain Parish in Sylvania, to start a case and request a case worker.
Donations can be sent to The Upper Sand Mountain Parish, designated for "Long Term Recovery Committee" or "LTRC". Address is P.O. Box 267, Sylvania AL 35988. Donations can also be dropped off at Horizon Bank in Sylvania, Powell, and Fyffe.
