Repairs expected to take months at Lake Guntersville State Park

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Lake Guntersville State Park has been closed for weeks and some repairs are expected to take months due to the April storms.

It took nearly three months, but all 18 holes at the Lake Guntersville Golf Course are back open for business.

Much of the landscape has been cleared where the damage occurred and people are back out on the course. But there are still many obstacles in getting the tourist resort back to the way things were.

The boat ramp as well as the beach are both open but the campground is still closed.

Half of the rooms at the lodge were closed after the storm but now approximately 80 of the 112 rooms are now open.

Lodge officials said they hope more even progress will be made by October.

"We hope to have those ready before the changing of the leaves and all if everything goes well. In October we hope to have those 33 rooms available, which will put the lodge back up at full running capacity," said Stephen Johns, Lodge manager.

The lakeside cabins remain closed but Johns hopes things will be completely back to normal sometime after the first of the year.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
