2 Marshall County men accused of stripping wires from telephone lines

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Two people are in custody accused of stealing telephone lines off a utility pole.

45-year-old David John Billups of Boaz and 42-year-old Joey Ray Quinton are charged with receiving stolen property.

"Officers were able to make a traffic stop and located stolen property in the vehicle," said Capt. John East, Guntersville Police Department.

Telephone company officials said there's been a nearly month long rash of thefts in the area.

AT&T reported to Albertville police on Tuesday that three spools of wire had been stolen, but then thieves hit them again on Wednesday night.

In all, more than $9,000 worth of wire has been taken.

Billups and Quinton are being held in the Marshall County jail without bond, and more charges are expected to be filed against them.
