Group from Maine building home for Phil Campbell tornado victim

PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) -

A church group from Maine is building a new home for a Phil Campbell woman who lost her home in the April tornadoes.

"1400 miles to come make a difference in somebody's life. In your life. In my life," said Jennifer Ripley.

She lost her husband in early April then lost her house on April 27th, but two months later a group from Maine is helping her start over by building a new house for her from scratch.

"We're working for god. We're working for the family here," said volunteer Justin Shink.

Pastor Brian Scott is one of the leaders of the project. The volunteers contacted him after the tornadoes hit.

"I just thought why not build a house, and at first we didn't think it would be possible," said Scott.

The volunteers will stay for a few more days before heading back north. Another group from Orlando, Florida, will then come in to finish off the next phase of the project.

"What's going to be the nicest thing about this. Just putting my family back in there and making it feel like home again," said Ripley.

The home is expected to be finished in the next few weeks.
