Groundbreaking in Boaz for New Poultry Plant

Oct. 24 - Good economic news for the city of Boaz. A new plant is expected to locate there, which means more jobs for the valley.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for Ala-Trade Plant was held Thursday. However, construction has already begun on the $5 million project.

The plant is expected to bring in 310 jobs and more than $13 million to the local economy.

Ala-trade is an output service factory in the poultry industry. Initial contact between Ala-Trade and the city of Boaz was less than a year ago. The project is underway and city leaders are excited.

Boaz Mayor Tim Walker said,  "This is a huge psychological lift. We've had a lot of success in retail sales, but folks have got to make a paycheck to be able to spend the money in retail sales and i understand that there's going to be a lot of paychecks coming forth from this new operation."

Ala-Trade also has a plant near Athens and in one already in Boaz. Construction is expected to be complete by March. Production set to begin by early May.
