State School Superintendent Morton to retire

MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) - State School Superintendent Dr. Joe Morton announced Thursday morning he is preparing to retire.

Morton, who has been the State Superintendent of Education since 2004, has a long career in the education field. Before taking the top position at the department Morton served for eight years as the Deputy Superintendent.

Morton has also help the top job in the Sylacauga City Schools and Sumter County School systems.

The retirement is effective in August.
