The Huntsville Stars rebounded from being shutout two nights in a row by coming back with a 3-2 win over the Mobile BayBears.
Brandon Jones hit his fourth homerun of the year with Logan Schafer on base to put the Stars up 3-0 in the third. Schafer got on base by driving in Hainley Statia for the Stars' first run of the game. Jones entered the game in the middle of the first as a defensive replacement in right field after Erik Komatsu popped out in the first.
Dan Merklinger (4-3) got the start and the win for the Stars pitching five innings, giving up one run in each of the last two innings he appeared. Merklinger only allowed four hits and one homerun while striking out five batters. Daniel Meadows came in for relief and went 2.1 innings with Mobile managing three hits and no runs. Meadows had a strong defensive effort behind him as he struck out one batter. Jim Henderson finished the final 1.2 innings with only one hit against him and one strikeout. Henderson picked up his second save for the Stars in the one-run game.
The Stars handed Wes Roemer (4-2) his second loss of the season scoring all three runs off the starter on six hits and five walks. Roemer lasted six innings and struck out just two Huntsville batters. The bullpen combination of Bryan Woodall and Mike DeMark went the final three innings each giving up a hit and recording two Ks.
The BayBears got their first run of the game when Paul Goldschmidt came in to score in the fourth inning. Jacob Elmore hit a solo homerun in the fifth off Merklinger which would be the final run the BayBears would score in the contest.
