CHILTON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Clanton woman has been charged with shooting her two sons, one of whom died from his wounds.

The Chilton County Sheriff's office said Ann Campbell, 34, of Clanton, had been charged with murder and attempted murder of her two sons, ages 11 and 15. Sheriff Kevin Davis announced the arrest Friday afternoon during a news conference in Clanton.

Sheriff Davis said deputies were called at approximately 10 a.m. to a mobile home on County Road 69 off Baker Holly Road just south of Clanton. When they arrived, they found two brothers suffering from gunshot wounds. The 11-year-old was in poor condition and was transported by LifeSaver helicopter to Children's Hospital in Birmingham where he later died of his injuries.

The 15-year-old was transported to Shelby Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

Sheriff Davis said Campbell was at the residence when deputies arrived and was taken into custody without incident. He said she "has been in this building in the past but I don't know what for."

A young girl was seen being escorted from the home Friday morning. Sheriff Davis did confirm Campbell does have a daughter, but did not say if the young girl seen being escorted was Campbell's daughter.

Sheriff Davis said investigators had spoken with the boys' father and step-mother. He also asked everyone to keep the family and the emergency personnel who responded to the scene in their prayers.

"This has been tough on us," Davis said. "I've never dealt with a mother and her children like this."

Sheriff Davis did not offer a motive for the shooting, but said the incident remained under investigation.
