A Mount Juliet family whose soldier son was killed in Afghanistan is getting a special memento from the community.
Last month, Spc. Michael Stansbery died in an improvised explosive device attack. He had sent a comforting letter to his parents from the war zone before his death telling them how much he loved them and not to worry about him.
"He was a real, such a cool kid. Even when he came back from Iraq, I was so emotional when he came off the plane ... He was just, like, 'Geez, Dad, take it easy,'" said the soldier's father, Mike Stansbery.
The Home of the Brave Quilt Project will present a handmade quilt to his family Monday night.
