Florence, Ala. — Lynn University extended its lead to six strokes Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course.
The Fighting Knights held a three-stroke lead after firing a 291 in Monday's opening round and another 291 in round two put Lynn six strokes up on California State University Monterey Bay. Lynn has a two-round 582 total, followed by CSUMB (588), Abilene Christian (590), Central Missouri (593), Fort Lewis (597), Central Oklahoma (598), Indiana, Pa. (601) and Hawaii-Hilo (602) in the top eight. There will be 12 teams eliminated after Wednesday's final round of stroke play and the remaining eight teams will begin Match Play on Thursday morning in quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The national champion will be crowned Friday after a final Match Play round between the remaining two schools.
Others within 10 strokes of the top eight heading into Wednesday's play are Newberry (606), Barton (606), Columbus State (608), Sonoma State (611).
Coker College's Jake Murphy fired a five-under-par 67 to seize a share of the individual lead after 36 holes. His 141 total matches Chico State's Kyle Souza and Central Missouri's Zack Van Dolah, both of whom had rounds of 70 and 71. The tournament's individual champion will be honored after Wednesday's final round of stroke play.
