For the third straight season, the UAH Chargers will host one of the two South Region Tournament sites at the Charger Softball Complex, May 13-15. The Chargers will be the No. 1 seed in the sub-regional and the top seed overall in the tournament. Joining UAH will be Valdosta State University, Barry University and Fort Valley State University.
The other South Region tournament bracket will be hosted by No. 2 seed Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. The winners of the two Regionals will meet May 20-21 to compete for a berth in the 2011 Softball World Series in Salem, Va., May 26-30.
While hosting the South Regional and Super Regional in 2009, the Chargers went undefeated and advanced to the World Series for the third time in the program's history. The Chargers made it all the way to the national championship game, but came up short to Lock Haven.
Last season, UAH saw the tournament return to the Charger Softball Complex. However, after going into the final day in the driver's seat just one win away from returning to the Elite 8, the Chargers were stunned by Arkansas-Monticello in a two-game sweep.
Valdosta State was the top seed in 2010, hosting UAM in the Super Regional. After losing the opening game to the Cotton Blossoms, the Blazers rallied to take the next two to earn a trip to the World Series. Like UAH, the Blazers advanced to the national final, but lost to Hawaii Pacific.
