Project Butterfly supports new cause this prom season

Several valley students are using their proms to get away from all of the damage.

This year, even that special night on the dance floor has been affected by the April 27th storms.

The Junior League of Huntsville is one of many organizations trying to help with dresses or shoes, even make-up for area proms.

In their seventh year of service, they're helping young ladies in Madison County who have adversity in their lives, but who are overcoming it through strong academics and work in the community.

Lee Shaw with the Butterfly Project said this year they're including several others in need of a perfect night.

"In order to make this a more joyous occasion, we made this a combo. Bring us your dresses not only for the Butterfly Project, but for tornado victims as well," said Shaw.

More than 130 girls also apply for scholarships each year through the Butterfly Project. Only eight receive scholarships, but all 130 receive a dress.
