HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) Countless homes, businesses, and apartments buildings were destroyed in the recent string of tornadoes. It's important to know your rights when dealing with a contractual agreement in the event of a natural disaster.
Renters may not be aware that under Alabama law, they have the right to terminate their leases if their apartments or homes have been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable by storm damage. The key is that renters must give notice to the landlord within 14 days after the damage occurred.
