Camouflage van text message not true, say police

SAND MOUNTAIN, AL (WAFF) The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is working to put a viral rumor to rest after receiving several reports of text messages concerning a camouflage van.

WAFF received reports of a text message being sent to area residents warning of a camouflage van driving in the Sand Mountain area, meant to mirror a National Guard vehicle, with occupants that were robbing people after stopping them.

It is also noted in the false text message that the suspects are on foot, and police units are searching for the suspect. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says this text message is completely false and they are not in pursuit of any suspects referred to in the text message.
