UAH: Frequently Asked Questions

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Here is a list of questions and answers that the University of Alabama at Huntsville wanted to share with the community.

What's the best way for individuals to get info?

Is the campus open?

The UAHuntsville campus experienced no damage during the recent storms. However, power on campus is very limited and most buildings on campus have no electricity. Thus, normal operations of the campus have been suspended until further notice.

When will the campus be open for regular operations?

Huntsville Utilities is working to restore power to the community. However, with the massive outage across North Alabama, it could be several days before power is restored to the entire campus. We suggest you monitor the UAH website or local media for updated information.  Non-essential personnel should not come to campus until notified.

When and where can students eat on campus?
The University Center is open for anyone with a Charger ID. Hours are Breakfast 7:30 am – 9 am, Lunch 11 am – 1 pm, Dinner 4 pm – 6 pm.

What is the status of final exams?

UAH's final exam schedule has been suspended. Students have options of accepting their letter grade as of April 27 (no action required for this), or completing remaining coursework and taking a final exam that will be accommodated later in May. More details will be available by Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m. University officials will be in the UC Monday at 10:30 a.m. to answer questions. Students not on campus can call 256.824.7777.

What do I do if I have questions regarding grades, assignments or finals?

University officials will be in the UC Monday at 10:30 a.m. to answer questions.  This will include questions regarding travel, I-120s, theses and dissertations, individual study etc.  Issues related to licensure, standardized national exams and other such tests/exams are being worked out so that students will not be penalized.  Further details will be posted by mid-week.

Will commencement take place next weekend?
The commencement scheduled for May 6-7, 2011, has been postponed. The date will be rescheduled later, but will not be until end of summer.

When will final grades for the spring semester be available?

It will likely be several weeks before grades will be posted. More details will be forthcoming.  However, we expect to have grades as of the 27th of April up for students to check by next week.

When do students who live on-campus have to vacate residence halls?
We are encouraging all campus residents who can safely return home to do so. The residence halls will remain open at least till the end of next week.  We are concerned about our students' well-being and will accommodate needs as possible..

What about the summer school schedule? Can students confirm their summer schedule and will there be an extension to the deadline?
There will be an extension to the confirmation deadline but the details have not been finalized. More details will be forthcoming.  We will ensure that all students will be able to register as needed.  Please do not worry about "I" grades or holds due to incomplete finals.

Will you be sending regular messages with updates?
Please refer to the university's website, or to local media outlets for the latest information.

Is on-campus housing safe?
Yes. Security personnel are on campus for your safety.

Are all the buildings on campus safe?
Yes. Security personnel are on campus for your safety and Residence Hall Directors and staff are on campus as well.
