Severe weather approaches on Albertville tornado anniversary
It's Easter Monday!
The weather today is muggy, and the rain is heading in. Tomorrow and Wednesday, the storms could be severe. Memphis has been under-the-gun this afternoon and we all know what that means. We're tracking the storms and we'll brief you when they'll move in, tonight.
A year ago today, the city of Albertville was picking up the pieces of a town nearly leveled by a tornado. I was there that first night and the destruction was amazing and for a time, overwhelming. So much of everyday life was disrupted, neighborhoods were missing, schools were damaged and today, some parts are still not the same. WAFF's Mark Thornhill (a Marshall County boy) goes back a year later to see what's changed and what remains the same. Mark talks to one preacher who's served two congregations that seem to be magnets to devastating storms.
At 5:30 this afternoon we'll learn the short list of candidates who will be recommended for an interview for Huntsville's next school superintendent. The list is down to 7. We'll be at the special Huntsville City School Board meeting tonight when the list is called.
A tragic wreck between a car and a state trooper in Limestone County. Two people are dead. State Troopers say the fiery accident occurred at the intersection of Moyers Road and Lucas Ferry Road in Limestone County this morning. The trooper hit the victims' vehicle on his way to another wreck call. The force of the collision knocked the car into a nearby field. We'll bring you the latest on the investigation tonight.
Hartselle Police are investigating an accident that injured a two year old. Police tell WAFF-48 that the toddler was struck at the corner of Puckett Road and Highway 36. Witnesses say the boy was playing outside when he was hit. He was flown to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.
You-Tube sensation Antoine Dodson found himself on the wrong-side of the camera today in a Huntsville courtroom. He was facing a judge on charges of possession of marijuana, failure to appear in court and violating the mandatory liability insurance law as well as speeding. The latest on his courtroom appearance tonight on WAFF.
We're covering the Valley and will have news from across North Alabama tonight. Don't forget, the countdown is on for a busy week's end. On Friday morning, stay tuned to WAFF for live coverage of the Royal Wedding. NBC's coverage begins pre-dawn at 3 am Central. Later in the morning, President Obama is going to welcome the National Champion Auburn Tigers to the White House THEN, the final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour scheduled for 2:47pm.
See you in a bit…
