BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State sprinter Laveeta Oliver continues to garner Ohio Valley Conference weekly accolades as she was named the Adidas OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Oliver, a native of Orange Park, Fla., captured gold in the 100 meter dash at the prestigious Sea Ray Relays this past weekend on the campus of the University of Tennessee. After breaking the school record in the same event the week prior, she nearly established a new program mark with a time of 11.62. The sophomore faced her stiffest competition so far on the season in the event with competitors from the Southeastern Conference, Big Ten and Big East programs. Oliver also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 23.96.
She was a member of the Jax State 4x100 relay team that set a new JSU standard in the event after the quartet clocked a 46.07 to place fourth in the event. The previous school record of 46.08 was set in 2006. The time is also the best in the OVC through this weekend.
Oliver owns the OVC's top mark in the 100 meter dash and second in the league in the 200 meter dash.
Oliver and the Gamecock contingent will tune up for the upcoming OVC Outdoor Championships that will take place on May 6-7 this weekend at the Troy University-hosted Coach O Invitational on April 23.
