The recent sexual molestation charges filed against a Huntsville city school teacher have sparked outrage among our viewers, and rightfully so. Even though the teacher in question has not yet gone to trial and is innocent until proven guilty, the situation is causing serious damage to the trust parents place in school officials. Rebuilding that trust will be difficult, especially when you consider that within hours of the story breaking, WAFF48 News had learned the suspect was wanted in Bermuda on similar charges, long before he began teaching in Huntsville. It was information we were able to uncover just by making a couple of phone calls, and it's raised serious questions about the thoroughness of the background checks done on prospective new teachers. If this teacher is eventually found guilty of the charges, then someone at the administrative level should be held accountable. Because in this instance, the Huntsville City School system failed to do its homework. I'm Vanessa Oubre and that's my take. What's yours?
