Auburn Football Practice Report

AUBURN - The Auburn football team ended the 2011 spring practice season with a two-hour workout Monday morning at Hutsell-Rosen Track and the Auburn Soccer Complex. It was the final of 15 spring workouts for the Tigers.

Auburn went without pads on Monday, electing to just go with helmets and shorts on a breezy, sunny day as the team recovered from Saturday's A-Day game and 14 physical practices prior to Monday.

Monday's practice opened with special teams drills before the team moved on to individual and position drills. After more special teams work, the Tigers moved on to 7-on-7 drills and spent the final period of practices with the entire offensive and defensive units working against each other.

Following practice, head coach Gene Chizik said he felt that the team had another good practice as it wrapped up a spring that saw the team make great strides.

"We had our last practice today, and I thought it went well," said Chizik. "We just tried to touch up on some things from Saturday's scrimmage that we felt like we needed to get cleared up.

"But overall, at the end of 15 days, I feel like it was very productive. I thought we gathered a lot of information on different players that we're going to need as we move forward trying to finalize what our roster is going to look like next year. We've got a whole summer in front of us and our expectation is that our whole team is working extremely hard to build on what we've started to accomplish these 15 days. A lot is going to depend on what they do voluntarily.

Chizik also stated that several players from the highly-touted incoming recruiting class will push some of the returners for playing time once they arrive at Auburn.

"We've got a lot of room to grow still plus we have a lot of young guys coming in that we're going to have to count on to play for Auburn next year," said Chizik. "It's going to be a very interesting summer."

The Tigers will spend the remainder of spring and summer working out in individual groups without coaches. Auburn will begin full practices for the 2011 season in early August.
