HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- The two-time defending Gulf South Conference champion University of North Alabama men's golf team will have some ground to make up Tuesday in the final round of the 2011 GSC Championships as the Lions trail West Florida after 36 holes.
The Argonauts and Lions were tied after the first 18 holes at 295, but UNA dropped five strokes off the pace on the second 18 despite shooting a 292. West Florida turned in a 287 for a six-over-par 582 total.
North Alabama won its first two GSC golf titles in school history in 2009 and 2010 on the same course. The Lions hold a one stroke lead over Delta State in third place, followed by Valdosta State (592), West Georgia (600) and Harding (607) in the 12-team event.
Tyler Ekenberg turned in rounds of 75 and 69 for a 144 total to lead UNA's golfers. He is tied for fifth. Ty Chandler and Ricky Stimets are tied for eighth at 147, Jace WIndom is tied for 14th at 149 and Jake Greer is 35th at 156.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
