Final practice for Auburn before A Day Game

The Auburn football team inched closer to the conclusion of spring practices with a two-hour workout Friday morning at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It marked the 13th of 15 spring workouts for the Tigers.

Auburn practiced in shells and shorts on a cloudy morning as the team held its final workout prior to Saturday's A-Day game. Contact was limited during Friday's practice as the team attempted to stay fresh for Saturday's contest.

The practice opened with special teams drills before the team moved on to individual and position drills. After more special teams work, the Tigers moved on to 7-on-7 drills and spent the final periods of practices with the entire offensive and defensive units working against each other.

Following practice, defensive coordinator Ted Roof said the spring practices have been instrumental in helping prepare for the upcoming 2011 season.

"I think we've made a lot of strides," said Roof. "I'm not satisfied with where we are and we're certainly not where we need to be, but I think we have a good indication of where we are so we know how to proceed with a plan for the summer - what our guys can handle, what we're good at and what we need to improve on. I think it's given us an accurate picture of where we are because the tape doesn't lie."

Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said Saturday's game will give a number of Auburn's young and inexperienced players a chance to show how they will perform in a game setting.

"We do have so many young and inexperienced guys and for a lot of them it will be their first time in front of a crowd," said Malzahn.

"We'll see how they react and respond. They can do one of two things. They'll either step up and rise to the occasion or you can see them be nervous. So we'll find out a lot as coaches to see where we're at and if they're ready."

Auburn's annual spring football game, A-Day, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tickets are $5 for general fans and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card.
