Fire damages north Huntsville home

Around 8:15 a.m. Friday, firefighters responded to a house fire on Evans Avenue near Alabama A&M Campus.

At least four fire trucks and a HEMSI ambulance responded to the scene.

Smoke and flames were showing when rescue crews arrived. Firefighters searched the home to determine if anyone was inside. The woman who lives in the home was out of town.

Crews had a difficult time gaining access to the home because a bookcase had fallen against the door. The siding was melted off the front of the home. Huntsville Utilities were called to the scene to turn power off to the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
