AUBURN - Spring practice for the Auburn football team continued to wind down as the Tigers held a two-hour workout Wednesday morning at Hutsell-Rosen Track and the Auburn Soccer Complex. It marked the 12th of
15 spring practices for the Tigers, who are now less than a week away from the conclusion of the spring season.
The Tigers practiced in full pads on a warm, sunny day. Although the practice was physical, tackling was limited as the team prepares for Saturday's A-Day game.
Wednesday‘s practice began with special teams drills, before the Tigers moved on to individual and position drills. After 7-on-7 and more special teams drills, the offensive and defensive units worked against each other during the final periods of practice in a scrimmage-like setting that did not include live tackling.
Following practice, head coach Gene Chizik said that although Wednesday's practice was a good one overall, there were areas that could have been better.
"I didn't feel completely good about the tempo and the energy compared to some of the previous days," said Chizik. "We did get some learning and some good teaching in today, but I wish the energy and the level of practice would have been a little bit higher. We're winding spring down and I think we've made a lot of strides, but we have a long way to go.
"We'll finish up the next three practices hopefully with much better energy than we did today. But we did do some good things. We did make some strides in some areas in terms of installation and getting some new things in, so hopefully the tempo energy will be a little bit better Friday."
The Tigers will return to the practice on Friday at 8:45 a.m. CT.
Friday's practice will be held in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Auburn's annual spring football game, A-Day, will be held Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tickets are $5 for general fans and free for AU students with an Auburn Ignited card.
