SELMA, Ala. -- Behind an offensive explosion, the Alabama-Huntsville (24-14) baseball team rolled to a 25-7, 15-4 doubleheader sweep of Concordia on Wednesday afternoon at Bloch Park in Selma.
The Chargers pounded out 22 hits in the opener before notching 15 base knocks in game two. Junior outfielders Eric Deese (Tuscaloosa) and Mike Love (Auburn) led the UAH eruption. Love went 7-for-9 at the plate with six runs scored and four RBI, while Deece posted a 5-for-7 performance at the dish including, six RBI, five runs scored and a pair of home runs.
Freshman shortstop Blake Massey (Huntsville), junior catcher Eddie Villalta (Miami) and senior left fielder David Reiniger (Calgary, Alberta) each added four hits a piece on the afternoon. Villalta led the team in RBI on the day driving home seven runs including three in the third inning of game one on a three-run blast, his first as a Charger.
Freshman southpaw Drew Eiland (Auburn) earned the win in the opener. The rookie went five innings scattering nine hits and allowing one earned run to notch his third win of the season. Redshirt freshman Kyle Jeter (Huntsville) picked up his first career win as a Charger working in relief in game two. Jeter came into game two in the fourth inning and worked two innings, allowing two hits and notching a pair of strikeouts. Senior Eric Parker (Priceville) got the starting nod in game two and worked the first three innings.
The Chargers return home this weekend to host top-ranked West Florida on Saturday and Sunday at Charger Park. Saturday's Gulf South Conference doubleheader against the Argonauts starts at Noon followed by a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
