KENNESAW, Ga. – Aaron Dobbs went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead Kennesaw State to a 14-6 win over Jacksonville State on Wednesday.
Catlan Kendrick (1-0) went five innings and gave up just six hits to earn his first win of the season for the Owls. JSU's Daniel Watts gave up five runs in 1 2/3 inning to suffer the loss for the Gamecocks.
Jax State (23-11) took an early lead in the first inning after Coty Blanchard led off with a single and came around to score when Sam Eberle doubled down the left field line to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead.
JSU extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning after Jake Sharrock hit a solo home run over the left field wall, but Kennesaw then took the lead for good in the home half of the third inning.
The Owls (20-16) scored five runs in the third, highlighted by a Dobbs two-RBI triple and a two-RBI double by Drew Fowlkes as KSU took a 5-2 lead.
Kennesaw State then added three in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, two more in the seventh and one in the eighth inning to hold a 14-3 lead.
The Gamecocks scored a run in the fifth inning after Eberle had a RBI single up the middle, and plated three more runs in the ninth inning for the final margin.
Eberle finished with two hits to lead the Gamecocks and extend his hitting streak to seven games, while
Blanchard extended his hitting streak to nine games and Erik Underwood has now hit in 15 straight games.
Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Austin Peay this weekend. Saturday's double-header will begin at 1 p.m., while Sunday's game is also scheduled for 1 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
