Severe weather threat in the Valley today

Severe weather is possible across the area this afternoon into this evening as a cold front moves toward the Heart of the Valley.

Storms are expected to arrive in NW Alabama between 1-3pm, the Huntsville metro between 3-5pm, and NE Alabama between 5-7pm.

The threat for severe weather should push out of the area by 8pm.  The greatest risk for severe storms will be possible in the white shaded area on the above map which includes NW Alabama.

The main impact from today's storms will be in the form of damaging wind gusts.  Some large hail is possible and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.  With rain amounts under 2" expected flooding should not be much of an impact.

The WAFF 48 Storm Team will have live streaming weather coverage this afternoon on as the storms arrive.  Plan on staying weather aware today.
